Trauma Informed Care (TIC)
The Center for Dispute Settlement is proud to be participating in a project designed to align our programs and services with a Trauma Informed Care (TIC) approach. Our staff are currently participating in a professional development series offered by Coordinated Care Services, Inc., sponsored through our membership in the Finger Lakes Regional Youth Justice Team (FLRYJT).
A trauma informed, healing centered approach is exemplified in the following quote from Brené Brown: "True belonging doesn't require you to change who you are; it requires you to be who you are." In this work, our goal is create environments that support people in their full, authentic selves, embodying the principles of Safety, Trustworthiness & Transparency, Peer Support, Collaboration & Mutuality; Power, Voice, & Choice; and Cultural, Historical, & Gender Issues.
This approach aligns with the Center's transformative approach to mediation, in that it prioritizes personal agency, empowerment, and self-determination, as well as relationship, community, and connection. It also aligns with our commitment to becoming an anti-racist, multicultural organization, which is the focus of the work of our Racial Equity Leadership Committee (RELC), in that it prioritizes cultural identity and connection to community as important mechanisms for healing and belonging.
During the month of August, our County Directors will have the opportunity to participate in small group consultation meetings to support us with applying this approach to all aspects of our work, including our models of leadership, supervision, internal communication, and creating an inclusive workplace culture.
